Everyone has their own reasons for doing their hair this way and that. Many kids get perms because their parents make them and many people get weaves because they want longer hair. Why am I going natural? My hair was super curly when I was a baby perms destroyed that. Around 6th grade I had breakage in the middle of my hair..Horrible,long on both side but short in the middle (funny how a couple years later people started cutting their hair like that on purpose).
In 8th grade I was told the bad news that I had to get a hair cut because the breakage was so bad. Now, as you know many black women aren't to happy about hair cuts (not back then anyway). Our hair doesn't grow fast so every inch counts. I cried my eyes out and moved on to sew ins. If you don't know sew ins are hair that are sew into braided cornrows onto your hair. The sew in thing sucked for a while. Just image being in the 8th grade and being the only one with a weave. Maybe I should have been a little more confident but it was odd coming to school with longer hair one day and everyone asking you a million questions about it.
Come 10th grade I cut my hair mega short. This was my first encounter that long hair (even if it wasn't mines) is associated with beauty. I took the weave out for a while and cut my hair very short. Long story short names where called, boyfriend problems all over what? The stuff that grows on top of my head. I couldn't believe how crazy things where. If my hair is short or long it won't make me any smarter, nicer,or more fun but many people can't see what's beyond looks.
Come 11th grade I'm a weave queen. (That's weave in my profile pic) It got to the point where people forgot what my real hair looked like. When I finally took my weave out my hair had grown a lot and that's when the natural idea came in.
Point one: My hair sheds a lot when I get perms.
Point two: I won't have to worry about accidentally forgetting about a perm appointed after the fact of me scratching in my head all day (done this before it HURTS!!!!).
Point three:Why hide what is known as Naturally B
Point four:I'm a rough sleeper. I was never able to get those nice curls in my hair without heavy holding spray or it was over with by the next morning.
Point five: it's versatile & cute
